Portable 3V speakers powered from USB for Laptop use
My laptop speakers are now weak so i need external speakers to hear something from my laptop. i had a low power portable speaker set ideal for low laptop or any multimedia player i.e. even mobiles. the problem with that was , it required a pair of 1.5V AAA batteries to get powered.i thought of modifying them for my laptop use, by providing the power from the USB.
so i just opened up the speaker cabinet.
Located the power input connections. since the speaker was running on 3V DC but the USB positive voltage is 5V DC , so i need to convert this 5 V to 3 V.
the easiest method i chose was to put 3 generals purpose diodes between the positive supply rail. so by inserting 3 diodes the voltage dropped by 0.7V*3=2.1V from 5 V to 2.9 V, which was quite safe for the speakers.
after doing this modification i can easily hear anything from my laptop.
